Well done Arne

Congratulations to Arne van Rensburg and the boys from Garsfontein High School for winning the National @lantic Champions 7's tournament.

High school Garsfontein can officially lay claim to being the best sevens rugby team in the country after winning the @lantic 7′s Series Champions Tournament on their home turf in Pretoria on Saturday.

The Champions Tournament was the 16th and final installment of the 2012 @lantic 7s series and saw the winners of each of the regional tournaments come together to contest for the title with the best seven-a-side schoolboy teams in South Africa.

Garsfontein topped Pool C as they breezed past Nelspruit, Montana and Diamantveld to set-up a tough quarter-final clash with Grey High School from PE. Garsies then put on a brilliant performance to sneak a 26 - 24 win over the Grey boys and progress to the semi-finals where they annihilated JAG Excelsior by 38 - 5.

The final was a free-flowing, fast paced and high-scoring affair that was a great testament to 7′s rugby as the Garsies beat defending champions Tygerberg 43 - 28.

Garsies had won back-to-back titles earlier in the year when they won the Kempton-Park and Garsfontein legs of the tournament.

Elsewhere it was Hentie Cilliers who claimed the Plate Final with a surprise win over Grey High, whilst Monument and Kempton Park claimed the Bowl and Shield Finals respectively.

Affies went in as one of the pre-tournament favourites and disappointingly went down to Tygerberg in the semi's before going onto restore some pride with an emphatic 40-10 win over JAG Excelsior to take 3rd place.
